Johnny Utah
Official Biography
Johnny Utah is a 22 year old indie hip-hop artist hailing from Port Stephens, he takes his name from Keanu Reeves’ character in the trashy 1991 action film ‘Point Break’, a quarter back turned FBI Agent – to this date not even he knows why.
Drawing influences from a huge range of artists spanning the gap between indie hip-hop in the style of P.O.S., Atmosphere and Brother Ali to punk acts like Rise Against and Gaslight Anthem, Utah employs a huge array of sounds in the creation of his music. The first thing that hits listeners is the effortless charisma in his writing style and delivery, switching effortlessly between passionate and confiding, his tone and lyricism blend perfectly with eclectic and unique production choices.
In 2010 he was made a Triple J Unearthed Featured Artist and chosen out of hundreds of acts to take main-stage at Groovin’ The Moo festival in Maitland, he was also awarded a Music NSW featured artist spot and toured the country in support of massive Australian acts such as The Funkoars and Urthboy. In the same year he joined Phatchance and Coptic Soldier as main support on the national ‘I Forget, Sorry!’ 2010 Tour.
